Artist Statement
I am a Dawson student in the Arts, Literature and Communication program, in the arts and culture profile. I have been a dancer since the age of three and I practised several styles of dance such as hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, street jazz, funky, acrobatic dance, and tap. During my two years at Dawson, being in Arts and Culture made me discover new hobbies related to arts, like drawing, painting, and singing, but I still took dance classes and it made me realize even more that dance is my one and only passion. Dance is a way for me to reconnect with myself and with my emotions. It is also a way to release and free myself from everything that has been painful in my life. When I feel something big, whether it is joy, melancholia or anger, I dance. The last few months were tougher to get through due to a breakup of a four year-relationship and this is why I decided to choose the Cause and Effect of Love so that I could channel my emotions and pain through my choreography. I took the concept of the cause and effect of love taking the two sides of it, such as the happy part and the sad part is sometimes the breakup.
